A tiny puppy named Tinka lay in a curled position, covered in flies and teetering on the edge of survival. When Rachael, the founder of Sidewalk Specials—a dog rescue and mass sterilization unit—first laid eyes on Tinka, she feared the worst. However, a slight movement from the puppy assured Rachael that there was still hope, prompting her to rush to Tinka’s aid.
At only six months old, Tinka had already given up hope and remained completely passive, even as Rachael gently petted her. Her eyes, filled with sadness, stared at her rescuers, unaware that life was about to take a positive turn.
Upon examining the puppy, Rachael discovered that Tinka was suffering from severe tick bite fever, placing her survival in jeopardy. Shockingly, Tinka’s previous owners had abandoned her, leaving Rachael to pick up the pieces.
“Tinka tried to stand but collapsed like a baby giraffe,” Rachael shared with The Dodo, capturing the puppy’s desperation and fragility. With one last look of defeat, Tinka was carried to the car and driven straight to the veterinarian in a bid to save her life.
In addition to the advanced tick bite fever, the vet found that Tinka was anemic and infested with parasites. Despite her grim prognosis, she began receiving immediate care at the clinic.
Against all odds, Tinka’s determination shone through, and she gradually recovered from her ailments. Two weeks later, when Rachael visited her again, the once feeble puppy had transformed remarkably. “Now she looks like a mini collie with an adorable underbite,” Rachael remarked, finding it hard to recognize her.
Tinka moved into a foster home where she could continue her recovery and, once fully recovered, she was ready to find a forever home. After watching Tinka’s journey on the Sidewalk Specials social media page, a compassionate woman felt an instant connection and decided to adopt her.
In her new home, Tinka’s heart swelled with joy as she finally felt the love and care she had longed for. She transformed from a weak, abandoned dog into a vibrant and joyful companion, seemingly having forgotten her past struggles.
“Now she’s lively and fun; it’s like she doesn’t even remember her previous life,” Rachael concluded. Tinka now enjoys a dream life with her new owner who loves her unconditionally, turning a page on her heartwarming journey from despair to happiness.
