Carlita got home and gave the kitten some cat food. She was lucky that she always had a bit to feed the strays by her window. Oddly enough, the cat refused to eat any of the food.
She assumed that it was because the kitten was still in shock from the ordeal he had just gone through. But she should have seen it as a sign that problems were about to start.
