14. Bergamasco Sheepdog
It’s a treat to meet one of these bulky, dreadlocked shepherd dogs. Their history dates back to the Phoenicians and almost disappeared during World War II. They are most distinctive for their matted fur coats, which contain three wildly different textures intertwined. In their homeland, the Italian Alps, these layers of warmth served them well, but in warm climates they were not so attractive.
