Heartbroken Dog Left Behind Finds Hope and Healing at Speranza Animal Rescue

For dogs, their human family is the center of their universe. They thrive on companionship and love, and losing their home can be devastating. This was the unfortunate reality for a dog in today’s story.

Janine Guido, the founder of Speranza Animal Rescue in Pennsylvania, received a call about a stray dog wandering the streets of Harrisburg. She felt compelled to check on the situation herself. Upon finding the dog, she saw him rummaging through a dumpster for food. As she tried to coax him closer, the frightened pup fled to the porch of his former home.

The dog seemed bewildered, unable to comprehend why his family wasn’t there to welcome him with open arms as they once did. It was as if he couldn’t grasp the idea that his owners had packed up and moved without him.

Janine watched as he desperately scratched at the door, hoping someone from his past life would let him in. Despite her attempts to win him over with food, he was uninterested, fixated solely on the family he missed so much.

Eventually, the dog realized that the house was empty and no one was coming for him. But when Janine spoke to him gently, assuring him she was there to help, he finally allowed her to leash him. “It sounds dumb but I swear he knew what I was saying to him,” Janine shared. “He literally came over and sat down.”

As they drove to the rescue center, Janine, emotional at the sight of the heartbroken dog, reassured him that he was safe now. Renamed Cupid, the dog needed time to adjust to his new surroundings.

Though he was surrounded by caring humans and dogs at the rescue, Cupid clearly found it challenging to let go of his past. However, he remained gentle and greeted everyone with a wagging tail, even in his confusion.

The staff at Pennsylvania’s Speranza Rescue provided Cupid with veterinary care to ensure he was healthy. Now, as he recovers physically and emotionally, the search for a loving forever home begins. Janine is confident he won’t wait long, noting, “He truly is the sweetest guy.”

Cupid’s story is a poignant reminder that abandoning a pet is never okay. Should you find yourself unable to care for your dog, please give them a chance for a new beginning by taking them to a local animal shelter. Every pet deserves a loving and stable home.
