As the legend goes, the American Bobtail cat was the result of an experiment that brought the regular domesticated tabby cat’s DNA together with that of a wild bobcat, but DNA testing has since debunked that theory. In actuality, a tabby was involved in the American Bobtail’s genesis, but the other half wasn’t a bobcat. It was a seal-point Siamese.

Recognized by their tails that are less than half (closer to one-third) of the proportional size of “normal” cats, American Bobtails are a highly interactive breed that has a history of sensitivity when faced with stressful situations.
