The Lykoi is often called the “werewolf” or “wolf” cat, and the domestic shorthair really does look like what a werewolf might look like if it were a cat. This werewolf gene is a mutation, one that has occurred in cats over the past two decades. The breed was first spotted in Vonore, Tennessee.

The Lykoi has a unique coat that looks like that of an opossum (if the cat is coated, which isn’t always the case). The missing coat on the Lykoi’s face makes it look fearsome, though the wolf cat is actually quite unchallenging and friendly in its temperament.
