33. Tonkinese

The relatively-uncommon Tonkinese is a mix of the Burmese and the Siamese, and this breed shares its parents’ playful, lively personalities. They are distinguished from their parents, however, by a pointed coat pattern that comes in a wide range of colors. The Tonkinese originated in Thailand, and these cats weigh between six and twelve pounds as adults.

The Tonk is loving and affectionate, and it has a lifespan at the higher end of the spectrum. These cats live between fifteen and twenty years. Because they are so playful and intelligent, they easily become bored, so it’s important to adopt a Tonkinese only if you can give it the attention and playtime it requires.
