The Turkish Van is a large, well-built, muscular cat with a long body and tail. The breed originated in the Turkish Mountains (then the Armenian Highlands), and the breed is naturally-occurring. The Van is one of the rarest breeds in the world. Only around one hundred Vans are born in America every year.
Because of this rarity, the Turkish Van costs $800 to $1,500, and don’t be surprised if you’re on a waitlist. The Van is a large cat, weighing up to twenty pounds. Though they can shed, they don’t shed much if you groom them every week (ear cleaning, trimming, and occasional bathing are also required for this breed).
