The Kanaani was first seen in Jerusalem in the 1990s. This experimental hybrid breed originated in Jerusalem, but the Kanaani has since become associated with Germany. To create this unique-looking breed, African Wildcats local to Jerusalem were bred with domestic house cats.

The breed is muscular with large ears like an African house cat, but it has an affectionate, domesticated temperament. The Kanaani weighs 7 to 11 pounds and grows to a height of 12 to 16 inches. They’re best suited to households that have a lot of space for them to run around and play, though these cats don’t do well with young children.
