Every time I hear about a dog being left by its owner, I tend to think it’s a case of severe neglect. That’s what crossed my mind when I first saw a picture of Andre, but his story turned out to be much more heart-wrenching than it appeared.
It’s easy to form quick judgments without knowing the entire background, but Andre’s situation was far from neglectful. This affectionate five-year-old Pit Bull mix was found abandoned in a Georgia park just before a storm, and the note from his owner revealed a heartbreaking reason.
Tara Borelli, a Georgia resident, came across a social media post about Andre, who had been discovered with a note attached to his collar. Deeply moved by his predicament, she couldn’t simply ignore it. Despite the looming storm, Tara decided to drive to the park to provide a temporary refuge for Andre.
The note left by Andre’s owner read: “Hi, my name is Andre. My dad is facing homelessness. I am a really good dog. My dad’s heart is broken. And no shelter will take me.” These words broke Tara’s heart even further, as she shared in an emotional post on Facebook.
After meeting Andre, Tara quickly got him into her car, hoping to safely navigate through the storm. However, the journey proved treacherous, as they lost traction a few times and eventually another vehicle bumped into them. Just as things seemed hopeless, three kind strangers stopped to help Tara and Andre continue their journey home.
At Tara’s home, Andre was finally able to enjoy a comforting meal and a secure place to stay. Though Tara provided a temporary home, her heart went out to both Andre and his owner, wishing they could be reunited soon. She conveyed this sentiment, stating, “To his dad, I hope you know that we are showering Andre with affection and will do everything we can to make sure the rest of his days are filled with love.”
Thanks to Tara’s intervention, Andre found a sanctuary away from the storm and received much-needed care and affection. Despite her efforts, Tara’s senior dog did not get along well with Andre, leading her to seek a permanent solution for him. She registered Andre with Fulton County Animal Services in Georgia, hoping someone would be drawn to his story and offer him the home he deserves.
Currently, Andre waits for a new home, but the shelter environment is taking a toll on his well-being, diminishing his once vibrant spirit. As Tara noted on Instagram, “He’s a sensitive dog and, after a week and a half back at the shelter, the light is fading from his eyes and extreme kennel stress is setting in.”
Andre longs for someone who can appreciate his loving nature and provide him with a stable, forever home. He deserves this second chance, free from the heartbreak of abandonment. May he find the care and stability he needs soon. Good luck, sweet boy!
