Suzette Hall is no stranger to challenging dog rescue missions. Over the years, she has encountered countless heart-wrenching scenarios that have tested her resolve. But her passion for helping these animals and witnessing their recovery keeps her motivated.
Recently, Hall was alerted to a situation involving a dog hiding underneath an abandoned car in a California apartment complex. The call came from a neighbor who had noticed the dog’s presence in the area over a few days. Despite the arduous journey to reach the location, Hall didn’t hesitate to get on the road.
Upon her arrival, Hall found the dog had vanished. Determined to find the stray, she decided to remain nearby, suspecting he might still be close. Her instincts were right; after some time, she noticed movement in the bushes beside a driveway and soon spotted the dog. She realized this secluded spot had been his refuge as he waited and hoped for help.
“He was literally in there crying,” Hall shared on Facebook, illustrating the desperate situation.
Suzette set up a humane trap with enticing treats, but the frightened dog remained in his hiding place, too scared to move. Undeterred, Hall devised a new plan. She swiftly donned her protective gloves and gently approached the dog. Speaking soothingly, she managed to gain his trust enough to get close, carefully pulling him to safety.
“It was such a tight space. Thank goodness I grabbed my bite gloves and a slip lead from my van,” she explained.
Though the dog initially struggled out of fear, Hall stayed calm and persistent, recognizing this as her chance to rescue him. Soon after, she had him safely secured in a crate and on the way to a veterinary clinic.
The examination revealed even more about the dog’s dire condition. He had numerous puncture wounds and was severely underweight. “My vet called and said, ‘I’m so glad you got him here when you did, he has puncture wounds, his gums are white, and he’s skin and bones,’” Hall recounted.
Thanks to Hall’s swift actions, the dog was saved from a potentially tragic fate. With proper care, he now has the opportunity for a healthier future. Once his treatment is complete, he will be ready for adoption, and Hall eagerly awaits the day he can begin a new chapter in a loving home.
