History of the Maine Coon cat is a strange one. This enormous domestic cat originated in France. But when Marie Antoinette escaped France during the French civil war heading for the new world. Her ship hit rocks and got wrecked off the coast of Maine. This is how this breed came to be in North America. Since then through further breeding their size has increased. Finally to become the giant fluffy cat we know as the Maine coon.
