Have you ever noticed that your cat loves to rub all over your legs, especially if you’ve just returned home? Perhaps they enjoy rubbing themselves around guests? There is a good reason. Cats use this as a way to communicate. Animal behaviorist Dr. Stephanie Borns-Weil told Pet MD that a cat shows affiliation with someone whenever they rub their scent all over them.
Rubbing themselves on someone’s legs is the perfect way to ensure they smell the same. Our feline friends also rub against people to try and get “information from you.” They can learn where someone has been, if they have any animals, and who they are through scent alone. This action doesn’t always mean our cat wants to be petted.
