It isn’t everyday you head out for a walk and return with a new baby, especially if you’re a cat. But that’s just what happened to this rescue kitty called Blanquis.
Blanquis unexpectedly acquired a baby opossum on her daily travels.
Blanquis’ owner, Yessica Rodriguex from Altamira, Mexico, was getting ready for work when her husband called to her from downstairs.
“He said, ‘you gave to come down here,” Yessica toldĀ The Dodo.
“Your kitten has an animal on her back!”
How and where Blanquis discovered the abandoned opossum is a mystery, but the baby clearly made its own way onto the feline’s back, which is how they ride their mothers as a way of transport.
Blanquis was happy to oblige and step into the role of surrogate.
Whilst the cat has been licking the youngster and treating it as if it is her own baby, Yessica has reached out to a wildlife specialist who can offer feeding and care guidance until the young opossum can be placed into the correct care.
